The heel is great. No problems at all. I didn't have to wait 7 days though...just 48 hrs and my doc allowed me to run again.

I was also concerned about weakening the tendon so I decided that the one shot is all I'll do. If my heel starts to hurt again, I'll stop running.

derek - how is your achilles now? i got a cortisone shot in my right achilles ystdy, have immobolized boot for the next 7 days which is fine by me if it decreases my chances of rupturing the achilles. just very concerned that while the shot may decrease the pain/inflamation from tendonitis, may weaken the tendon and cause problems down the road ie rupture, surgery, ugh...my doct said i should be fine, just have to keep the boot on for the week. just curious how you are feeling now almost 2 months later?
i am 28 yr old, very active in running, kickboxing

Thanks for the info. I've been doing a lot of research about the surgery and to be honest, I don't expect to ever do it, at least not just to enable me to run.

I've had 5 surgeries total between both feet due to Insertional Achilles Tendonitis. I tried the cortizone shots but it did not help, actually it hurt.

My 1st surgery was by a doctor that didn't know what it was. So when the pain came back, 5 years later, I did my homework and the 2nd doctor knew the answer before the x-ray even came back and drew a picture or what it will look like and he was right.

He removed a piece of the bone out of the heal on each foot. This worked for about 5 years again. Then my left achilles snapped. From this point on I have continued to sleep with my feet elevated at night and have added calcium and glucosamine to my diet. I have not had to have surgery or snapped the other tendon. It actually feels as though it's getting better.

The tendon that did snap is coming along nicely and feels better than it has in years. My leg is still a bit weak (even 2 years later) but is working nicely. Hope this helps you in your choices!

I'm no doctor but I'm gonna guess you have 2 bum heels because you ran 18 consecutive days in a row. Now if you were an elite runenr I'd say..ok maybe. However for the vast majority of us, rest and recovery days are crucial. So don't blame your old body, its hardly old, but rather blame poor training.

Yeah, getting old is unfortunate, at least from a body standpoint. It takes me 4 days to recover from a 10 mile race where it used to take 1 or 2.

But at least you have more money when you get older.
