C25K: Week 7 Day 3

Plan: Run 2.5 miles
Actual: Run 2.5 miles with a 20 sec walking break

As you may notice, I’ve now switched to distance instead of time.  The reason is that I now hav the technology to measure my distance….the S625X running computer.

Today wasn’t bad, but I had to take a short walking break.

C25K: Week 7 Day 2

Plan: Run 25 mins

Actual: Run 25 mins

I finally made a decision and I got the Polar S625X. After a lot of deliberation, I went with the Polar because of it’s better accuracy and consistency. The ability to map my runs with the GPS-based Forerunner was a very minor benefit.

I went running with it for the first time and I got a bit of a shock. I thought I was running at a 10-min/mile pace, but instead, I’m actually at a 12-min/mile pace. At least now I have something I can work with as I improve. I haven’t installed the Polar software as yet as I’m still waiting for the infrared device so that I can transfer data, but I’m looking forward to be able to analyse each of my runs and to actually see the improvement.

C25K: Week 7 Day 1

Plan: Run 25 mins

Actual: Run 25 mins

Today’s run was a little tough.  At around 21 mins into the run, I wasn’t sure I could actually finish the whole 25-mins, but I persevered.

I’ve been dieting along with my exercise and when I weighed this morning (for my weekly weigh-in), it was a bit discouraging.  I’ve been consistently losing 3 lbs/week, but I “only” lost 2 lbs this last week.  Oh well…at least I’m still losing.  I expect it will get tougher to lose weight as time goes one.

C25K: Week 6 Day 3

Plan: Run 25 mins

Actual: Run 25 mins

Today was a huge accomplishment for me. I was able to run the full 25 mins. This is the longest I have run to date without walking. I was a lot more confident before the start that I could do it versus last week’s 20-min run, but there was that very slight doubt in the back of my mind.

Based on the C25K plan, there is no more walking. I get to run ALL the time!

I started reading a book I bought this week called “Heart Monitor Training for the Compleat Idiot”. This is in anticipation of my getting a heart rate monitoring device soon.

C25K: Week 6 Day 2

Plan: Run 10 mins, walk 3 mins, run 10 mins

Actual: Run 10 mins, walk 3 mins, run 10 mins

Today’s run actually felt quite easy.  That is, I didn’t feel as though I had to push myself or that I was struggling at any point.  I’m starting to wonder if I shouldn’t be going a little faster. Friday’s run is supposed to be a 25-min run, so I’m sure that will be a little challenging.  As noted in last week Friday’s entry, I couldn’t quite complete the 20-min at the end of week 5, but I’m feeling pretty confident that this week’s 25-min run will be doable.

I’m still doing research into a running computer.  At this point, I not any closer to making a decision.  I’m still going back and forth between the Garmin Forerunner 305 and the Polar S625X devices.
