Chicago Marathon 2007 Training: Week 24 - The End!

The training is all done now.  I started on my marathon training plan 24 weeks ago with high hopes and expectations, but somewhere along the line things started to fall apart,  My training for the last 3 months was nothing like I had expected it to be.  I pretty much ran about 1/2 the mileage I wanted to run.

All that’s left now is the marathon itself on Sunday.  I have no idea what to expect or how I’m going to perform. I don’t even know what my game plan is going to be.  I know I will want to join a pace group, but which one, I don’t know!  It’s probably going to be a last minute decision on Friday at the expo.

All I can do now is hope for the best.

Good Luck Derek! I’ve enjoyed reading your blog throughout your training, and look forward to hearing your race report. It’s going to be a hot one tomorrow, but what can we do other then do our best and have fun!!!

    Hey Derek,

Good luck in the race tomorrow! Don’t sweat the heat. Just get out there, do what you can and have fun. If you can’t win, then have fun.

    Joggle on.

I hope you are having a fabulous race. You have put in a lot of self-sacrifice, and that alone should be a major accomplishment. Make us all proud, as I hope to do the same here in NYC on Nov. 4th.

    You rock!!!

    Derek,

I have heard the news, and the incredible heat during the race. After all your hardships during training, and finally getting yourself to the starting line, I think you did an amazing job to finish. Today, 5:35:25 is the winning time!

    Congratulations, you did awesome.

    Dave

Today was a really tough marathon! Congrats on finishing. Don’t get discouraged by the time. This one is an anomaly.

That time is terrible. I am sorry to be blunt and i am more sorry the truth hurts. Really, for losing so much weight and all of the traiing I hope that you are truley mad at yourself. I am sure you demand more out of yourself and look foward to the next eddition to the “road to boston”
Don’t let the losers tell you 5:35 is good….. lets be honest. It isn’t

    Zenny,

Thanks for the feedback. I wouldn’t say I’m “truly mad” at my performance, but I am disappointed. I know I went into the marathon under prepared and I honestly believe I did the best I could with the cards I was dealt.

  10. Daddyo says:

Who is Zenny? (Other than an illiterate idiot?)

  11. derek says:

I’m afraid I don’t know who Zenny is. I guess more people read my blog than I thought :-)
