Pete Pftizinger Plans Back Online

I had sent an email to Pete Pftizinger last week requesting permission to publish some of his training plans from his Advanced Marathoning book. Well, I heard back from him today and he has given me permission to publish up to 3 of his plans. This is great news for me and I’m sure it’s great news for some you out there that use my tool.

I have chosen 2 of the 55-mile plans and one 70-mile plan, the 18-week one. I want to leave the two 55-mile plans up since that is what most people would use, but I’m open to suggestions with regards to which 70-mile plan to leave up.

I would encourage anyone that is using his plans to buy his book. It’s a great book and he goes into a lot more detail on the actual workouts than I have listed here on my website. (Please note that I am providing links back to Amazon, but I am not an affiliate and I don’t make any money if you order from Amazon. It’s just a convenient place to link to for you all to buy the book :-)

Cowtown Marathon Training - Week 1

This week was a great week and start to my marathon training. The weather has been great which I think is a huge contributing factor. All I need now is for the next 17 weeks to be like the last 2 weeks!

I think I finally have my diet under control…at least for 5 consecutive days so far. In the recent months, whenever I tried to control my diet, I would only last 2 days. What I started to do was to track everything that went into my mouth. In the past, I would track the major meals, but end up eating a lot of smaller snacks that I never bothered to track.

From now on, I will try and summarize my week’s training in a table as follows:

Day Plan Actual Avg Pace Comments
Sun 6 Mi 9:46 The plan actually starts on a Monday so today was a rest day.
Mon 7 Mi w/ 10×160m 9:26 The weather was great so I decided to do Tuesday’s run today instead. It was 55F when I ran
Tue 7 Mi w/ 10×100m 3 Mi 9:43 Recovery run instead of a rest day
Wed 9 Mi 9:54 Did Thursday’s 9-miler today. Felt great for the first 7.5 miles. Took 3 short walking breaks in the last 1.5 miles
Thu 9 Mi Rested today after 7 consecutive days of running.
Fri 5 Mi 9:33
Sat 4 Mi 2 Mi 9:55 Recovery run. No real running benefit. I justwanted to burn a few calories to help with my weight loss
Total 20 Mi 32 Mi

No More Training Plan Generator

Those of you that used my training plan generator to create training plans will notice that they are no longer available.  I was contacted by Hal Higdon who requested that I remove his Spring Training plan I had on my website.  I have removed it, and to avoid any future issues with the Pftizinger plans, I have also removed those.

Next Race - Half Marathon

I just signed up for my next race, the Dallas White Rock Half Marathon on Dec 9th.  By the time the race comes around, I would have completed 7 weeks of my marathon training.  I would be a couple weeks shy of the mid-way point, but it would be a good time to assess how my training is going.

I don’t have a specific goal as yet as that would depend on that first 7 weeks of training, but it would be nice to break 2 hours.

Great Running Week

This week has been a one of the best running week’s I’ve had in a long time.  Except for my marathon week and the week I did a long 20 mile run, I ran the most miles I’ve run in several weeks and I did it with runs of just 6 miles or less.

I ran 32 miles and I ran every day except for one rest day.

The best part of the week were my last two 6-mile runs where I did them both without walking at all.  It has been several months since I last ran anything more than 4 miles without taking a walking break.

This is just the kind of week I’d like to have as I start my next round of marathon-specific training this coming week. The weather has been cooling down nicely which is also providing a much needed boost in my confidence.
