I know I ran the beginning too fast. Pacing is something I am terrible at and I need to work on.

Derek,

I recently came across your website and noticed your recent 5K performances. I'm no expert, but I can tell you that it looks like you are running too fast on your first mile in these races. A 5K is a fairly short race, so it is surprising to me to see such a difference in your pace per mile for these events. I think if you took it a bit easier for the first mile that you'd find you'd have a lot more gas through the race. A slightly slower start might lead to an overall improvement in your average pace for the event and I bet you'd hit sub 25 in no time at all.

I'm not sure what I am impressed with more, the fact that you are consistently improving your times, and hitting PR's or the mileage you've been eating up. God Bless You and Congrats!
I'm doing a 5K next week. It's a race that I did back when I was a serious runner and trophied. That ain't gonna happen this time 'round, but trying the master the art of sustained anarobics in a 5K is very challenging for sure.
Keep up the great work!

Congrats on ANOTHER P.R.! The Forerunner's virtual partner is pretty cool. I usually figure out what I want my splits to be and keep eyeing the watch through-out the run.

Hmm... Maybe I should try the virtual partner during the next race...
