Didn’t Quite Start the Year the Way I Wanted

I wanted to start my year with a 10-mile long run.  I went about around 8:45am, but I only managed to do 6 miles before I had to call it a day.

About 1.5 miles into my run, I started to get some discomfort in my left knee, but it was manageable.  At about 4 miles, it got so bad, I almost called it a day then.  I decided to move the patella strap I had on my right knee over to my left knee and put it above my knee cap.  That actually helped a lot and I was run a couple more miles. My right knee then started to hurt since I no longer had the patella strap on.  My left patella also started to hurt.  I had to abandon my run after 6 miles.

I figure that if I had THREE straps, I may be OK.  One for the right knee and two for my left knee. I’m going to pick a couple more today and see how that works out.  My only concern is that I may becomes too dependent on these straps.
I started doing a lot of post-run stretches about 2 weeks ago and I started some quad strengthening exercises a week ago.  I’m going to be very diligent about these exercises.

I’m determined to run 10 miles today so I may go out for another 4-mile run this evening once I get my straps.
