My Greatest Running Fear

I’m sure if you ask a bunch of runners what their greatest fear is when it comes to running, you will get a variety of fears.  E.g., some people may have a fear of coming last in a race, others have a fear of what non-runners would think of them, and others fear being ridiculed as they run outside.

For me, my greatest fear is being injured and having to stop running, even for a short time.  I realize that I have a very ambitious goal and one that would involve a lot of running for the next 12-18 months.  Running has also been a significant factor in my weight loss and I still want to lose more weight.

If I were to become injured, it would throw all my plans and goals into disarray and make it that much harder to continue losing weight. Any interruption to my running would be devastating!

The fear of injury now has me very paranoid especially since I’m starting to get various aches and pains.  Every time a new body part hurts for more than 1 day, I go into panic mode and try to find out as much as I can about that particular injury or pain.  Is it my shoes, is it the surface I’m running on, is it my form, is this a pain I should worry about?

My heart and mind is very willing to go-the-distance to get to Boston.  Now only if my body would hold up!

What is your greatest fear?
