Increasing Mileage

I had a 6-mile run. The longest I had run prior to today was 5 miles so it was a bit worrying.  The run started out pretty good, but at 4.5 miles, everything started to hurt, my back, knee, hip, arms…everything.  That eventually subsided, but then my legs started to feel heavy.  It would have been easy to just stop running, but when I thought of how I would be in a marathon, I just had to keep moving and keep putting one leg in front of the other.  I know when I do run my marathon, I would get to a point where I would just want to stop and mentally, I need to “keep moving”.

For the last mile, my pace had dropped to about an 11:00 min/mile pace, but for the last 0.25 miles, I picked it up and ran that under 10:00 min/mile.

In the end, I ended up running the 6 miles just 1:30 mins slower than it took me to run 5 miles just 5 weeks ago.  The 5 miles took me 1:01:30 and the 6 miles today too me 1:03:00.  These are the kinds of numbers that keep me motivated!
