C25K: Week 1 Day 1

The journey began today with an early morning run.  In the past, my preferred time of day to exercise has been in the evenings.  The last time I got a regular exercise program going, I would exercise in the evenings just before dinner.  I was exercising indoors on an elliptical trainer.

Since I now live in Texas and I’m running outdoors, I need to exercise when it cool.  At 6 am in the morning, it is bright outside and the sun is now coming up and te temperature is very comfortable.
My run (I’ll call it a run, even though it’s a jog/walk,walk,walk plan) today went well except for a sock malfunction.  When I bought my new running shoes, I decided to buy 4 pairs of these “runner-looking” socks that only go to your ankle.  Well, the sock on left shoe decided to keep slipping into my shoe.  I had to stop twice to take off my shoe and fix the sock.  I’ll give it one more try and if it still gives me problems, I’ll revert to my old cotton tube socks.

Also, I couldn’t find my G-Shock watch (it got misplaced during our move to Texas) so I had to use my wife’s digital kitchen timer so I could time the 30 second and 90 second intervals.  I have no idea where my watch is so I figure I’ll be using the kitchen timer for a while until I break down and go buy another watch.

With regards to the C25K program itself, it went well.  The run was very doable and I felt comfortable.
